Ladder Leagues and Tournaments

As another feature of the Academy, the Knights will be administering numerous ladder leagues and tournaments on The Zone and possibly through ICQ. How good these leagues are depend on you, and how seriously you take them. As of right now there will be three kinds of ladder leagues and an opening tournament.

Players are allowed to sign up for as many leagues as they feel fit, and should not let their current gaming ability keep them from enjoying these leagues. Details follow below.

Tournament I - The Inaugural Knight's Challenge - Teams of two are invited to enter in the Inaugural Knight's Challenge, which will hopefully be held once a year. Players will compete head to head to determine which team advances to the next round. Players and team who are entering the leagues below are encouraged to enter, because their results from the tournament will be used to determine preliminary rankings. Although right now I would like to have a 16-team tournament, it will be enlarged if more teams apply.

The Knight's Challenge will be a regicide game with a pop. level of 75. It will be played on a large team islands, on normal speed, and players starting out with high resources. The rest of the settings are TBD.

At the end of the game all players should take a screenshot of all the final scoreboards and email them to the league adminstrator (who will be chosen at a later date.) Exact scoring is yet to be determined, but it will be a function of both your total score, and the scores of your teams. Records in several categories will also be kept. The host of the game is also required to record all league games, and sumbit them to the league adminstrator. All game files will become available both on your league page and in the Game Recordings Library on the main site.

League I - Regicide - the first ladder league will all be played as regicides. In all matches the pop. limit is 100 on normal game speed and without cheats disabled. The game will also have none of the map visable at the start, begin in the dark ages, and without a full tech tree. Other settings in the game, including map, will be determined by the highest ranking player in the game. Call it a "homefield" advantage.

League I I - Deathmatch - many feel the Deathmatch is the toughest and most grueling match in AoK. This is debateble, but it definately is the most action packed match available. Because of the emphasis on numbers and military tactics, deathmatch games will be played at a pop. level of 200. The game will also have none of the map visable at the start, begin in the dark ages, and without a full tech tree. Other settings in the game, including map, will be determined by the highest ranking player in the game. Call it a "homefield" advantage.

League I I I - Random Map - Random is the most commonly played game on the Zone. Unlike Deathmatches, a lot more emphasis is placed on your economy in Random games, and your ability to think on the fly and change your tactics as new scenarios arise. To provide the most balance in the Random games, matches will be held at pop. 75. The game will also have none of the map visable at the start, begin in the dark ages, and without a full tech tree. Other settings in the game, including map, will be determined by the highest ranking player in the game. Call it a "homefield" advantage.
